trying to start the mini game, it is loading.. and instead of starting up i get an error message saying i am using a VPN. well, i am not using a VPN, but i am on vacation and accessing the internet through shared wi-fi on my phone as that is the only internet available here. is there any fix/workaround for this?

it would stink to play but can you play the game directly on your phone maybe?

Try using a vpn on your phone to get back to your home general location so the game thinks your back home.

@aliencal that's the strange thing. my ip (and all the websites i've been using so far) indicates that i AM home. just not in the same area, but still in my home country. i have no idea how to find a city-specific VPN, don't think it exists

@chal8 - ok that's all I can think of for vpn, next. Not vpn but I did have a mini game refuse to work due to a 3rd party blocked cookie. perhaps see what that page is trying to load.
