1. Definition of a gamer in my opinion is someone who likes playing video games. Of course there are sub categories like pc gamers, console gamers, mobile/smart phone gamers.

2. Skills I believe is having really good hand/eye coordination. Reflex is also a must to be able to quickly react to the scenario

well.. technically, gamers r just people who play game as a hobbie, nothing more, nothing less. as for skill, well, i don't think there actually something that matter for experienced gamer. I mean.. if you think about it, if they are not a competitive/esport gamer, they don't really need those skill. Someone can be an experienced gamer with non of these skills and still be called that.

A gamer is someone who is still in love with their child hood hobbies of video games and somehow have never gotten past that stage of entertainment in their lives to this day.

2. Experienced gamers have a way to adapt to whatever game they are on in terms of three things.

1. Good aim. (Counter strike, team fortress, then taking those skills to a whole new game; Can the csgo aim be carried on to another game that is the number 1 game?)

2. Positioning. (What hero did you pick? Is it tank? Front line? Support? Where am I supposed to be at with my team?)

3. Basic game awareness ( Where is my team, or Should I go in that building to get some loot?, Will I get out of the building in one piece or am I being spotted already?)\

4. Being a team player is also critical to showing general gamer skills.

To end the paper.

You need to add "The mental issues that a typical hardcore game can have." Gaming was considered a mental health issue recently. Just add that bit in the end of the essay to show that even all gamers no matter how professional or skilled they can get, their toxic attitudes eventually lead them to getting swatted or them saying something stupid on twitch or twitter that can be detrimental to their gaming career. Look at ninja with the Calling epic games and asking to ban someone. (Childish and almost weird to do) Or how xqc and other overwatch players got fined $1000 or more for their toxicity. Its just a game right? Not if you put your level of gaming on some sort of platform that generates money, then the money gives them a jumpstart in their gaming career. I get that making tons of money streaming is cool, however the "Gamer God" in-game is a "room dweller" playing hours and hours on end. Some people want to play video games for a living and garner fame that way. But, they are spending all that time in their rooms grinding their skill and hours into a game when it's all about RANK. They all want to be top 500 players (like overwatch). You gotta end the paper saying that even being the best in the game does not mean that you are mentally healthy or have a grounded sense of well being. Ice Poseidon started playing runescape but switched to irl then he gets swatted every now and then. His social well being or his mental health has been changed because of stuff like that.

One more thing, look up Dr Disrespect. He got top twitch award for being a great streamer. Then, got caught in the middle of cheating with his wife. After things seemed back together with him and his wife; he was streaming one day and someone did a drive by on his house with a BB gun. Why did he get his house shot when he just plays games to make a living?

1. I think many have answered the first question rather well so I will let you follow your nose on this one.

2. The skills of an experienced gamer are, in my opinion, dependent on the platform and game mode. All games require a lot of dexterity and hand eye coordination. I believe that in MMOs with raids and large scale multi-player combat mechanics (like GW2) one of the key skills is communication. This can be pushed further to include leadership skills as well -- especially for a raid lead. You can, however, be a very experienced MMO player who never leads a squad and largely plays solo PVE content. In addition this answer is all dependent on how you are phrasing this in your thesis. For example, which type of experience do you consider "enough" of a baseline? there are people I have met in GW2, for example, who have never played another MMO; yet, they can tell you everything you ever wanted to know about GW2. Does this constitute as experienced? In the case of GW2 specifically yes, it is. At the same time, if you are looking more broadly, then this person would be considered inexperienced. Also, does a person with 10 years of experience with different games, who raids occasionally but really is not a great player in the speed and dexterity areas be considered as experienced? Just because someone is the best player in a particular game and streams etc does not necessarily mean they are experienced.

If you are looking at console and first person games then the skills are slightly different but the same methodology applies.

Good luck with the thesis and I hope your school's ethics committee approved of this survey ;-)
