Microsoft showed its VR-controllers, similar to the hybrid Oculus Touch and Vive

  • 322

During the annual Build Developer Conference, Microsoft introduced its VR controllers for the Windows Mixed Reality platform. This is not quite VR, since Microsoft does not rely on pure virtual reality, but on mixed - overlay of virtual elements on reality. The platform is already built into the Creators Update for Windows 10.

Announced controllers will be bundled with VR-devices from Microsoft partners - Acer, Asus, Dell, HP and Lenovo, their sale will start at the end of the year. One of the first will be a device from Acer, which will cost only $ 400 with controllers. A big difference considering that Vive costs $ 800, and Rift $ 600.

At first glance, Microsoft's controllers are like a hybrid from the HTC Vive and Oculus Touch controllers. They are wireless, equipped with a stick and a touchpad, and the ring-shaped form will achieve high accuracy of tracking movements. It is noted that the controllers do not require external sensors, like Oculus or Vive, because the sensors are already built into the VR helmet.

This fall will be hot for the VR market. What will the competitors say?

Lunar

There are so many VR-devices on market right now...

Well, these controllers look pretty good anyway. I actually would like to test these things.

Interstellar

Looks interesting, more competition should mean more development, though I think I'm still a ways away from trying VR :P

Lunar

And $299 without controler, this VR headseat could be interesting !

Planetary

I think this VR headset will be on my head right after I'll buy a new gpu (Vega?)
