Oh boy, I just had a flashback to the hypetrain for the release of Windows 95 in... 1995. I was at an Incredible Universe store (lol) and there was a DJ and a NFL player signing autographs and everything.

Yes, and not just games, but books too. There were so many fun things and seeing the people dressing up before cosplay was a huge thing. Some were such fun events to go to that I liked the launch better than the game I got, lol.
