Marvel Rivals Leaks! Let's Take a Look!

Greetings fellow Aliens! Hope you are living long and prosper as you are reading this! We have received a special broadcast from the Mothership regarding some potential leaks for upcoming heroes in Marvel Rivals!

Since its release late last year, Marvel Rivals has rapidly ascended to the top spot within the gaming community! The game ramped up to a peak of 644,269 concurrent players on Steam, and remarkably, it has maintained approximately 93% of its peak player base through its inaugural Season 0! With those numbers, Gamers, I think it’s safe to say, we have a banger on our hands! Let’s see if they can retain and prove the OW2 nay-sayers wrong!

Amidst this success, and as GaaS titles go with upcoming content, recent leaks have unveiled an exciting lineup of X-Men characters set to join the game's roster. We have scrounged up a list of these leaked characters, their potential role in the game, and some OG Comic lore that could aid in our speculation of what their in-game abilities and roles will truly be! Let’s take a look!

Nightcrawler

You already know I have to list my favorite leaked X-Men character first! Ever since I was a youngling, Nightcrawler has always been my favorite and seeing him in X2: X-Men United put the seal on the deal! I am already a Nightcrawler main -- catch me in the shadows. With Nightcrawler’s signature ability to teleport short-range, it could easily be an absolutely lethal combo for a CQC duelist, get in and out type vibe. Very interested to see what the exact abilities are.

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Duelist

  • Comic Book Lore: Kurt Wagner, known as Nightcrawler, has the ability to teleport himself and others over short distances, leaving behind a distinctive "bamf" sound and the smell of brimstone. His agility and prehensile tail make him an exceptional acrobat and swordsman.

Gambit

Another legendary X-Men figure that has some absolute baller abilities! We all got a fresh look at Gambit in the recent Deadpool v Wolverine cinematic adventure where Magic Mike did a great job playing the role (and here I thought he could only dance). Another duelist to the punch though, suspecting mid-range to close-range abilities here peppering enemies with the iconic purple-glowing playing cards of doom. We also have some in-game depictions of Gambit holding his Bo staff for those CQC moments (unsure if this is real though with AI and all)! I'm excited to see Gambit as well!

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Duelist

  • Comic Book Lore: Remy LeBeau, known as Gambit, possesses the mutant ability to charge objects with kinetic energy, causing them to explode. He commonly uses playing cards as his weapon of choice, hurling them with explosive results. Additionally, Gambit is an expert hand-to-hand combatant, often employing a bo staff in battle.

Rogue

The iconic ‘conceal don’t feel’ X-Men character that needs those gloves before and cannot let go like Elsa. This one is curious indeed, currently being nodded to as a Strategist, Rogue’s abilities are very interesting for this role. Will she be able to absorb just Ultimate abilities? Will it be whole characters and their kits? Will she have a ranged drain attack like Moira from OW? There is a lot of speculation here, so we will have to patiently wait to see!

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Strategist

  • Comic Book Lore: Rogue has the power to absorb the memories, abilities, and life force of others through physical touch. This ability allows her to temporarily gain the powers of other mutants or superheroes, making her highly versatile in combat situations.

Beast

I always found Beast intriguing and appreciated the dichotomy of it all – the sort of vibe that tamed Hulk has as well. Bestial brutality when needed, mixed with an eloquent intellectual vibe otherwise – it’s quite a beautiful depiction of humans really! *ahem*. In any case, we can probably assume that Beast is going to be Vanguard simply based on the character – where else is a literal beast going to be other than the front line? Another character I am excited to see thrown into the mix!

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Unspecified (likely Vanguard)

  • Comic Book Lore: Dr. Henry "Hank" McCoy, or Beast, possesses superhuman strength, agility, and enhanced senses. His blue fur and ape-like physique belie his genius-level intellect, making him both a formidable fighter and a brilliant scientist.

Jubilee

I am going to be honest here and let you all know that Jubilee is an X-Men character that I don’t know much about – she looks awesome though! Her current role isn’t specified from what I have seen on the interwebs; however, based on her Comic Book Lore, I can totally see her being a sort of hybrid Ranged Duelist/Strategist erring more on a utility/cleric support angle, rather than a straight up healing support. I have always been a fan of ‘cleric’ type characters as it adds another level of strategy if balancing is well maintained. Another we will have to wait and see – excited nonetheless though!

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Unspecified

  • Comic Book Lore: Jubilation Lee, known as Jubilee, can generate pyrotechnic energy plasmoids from her hands. These "fireworks" can be used to blind opponents, cause explosions, or detonate objects, providing both offensive and defensive capabilities.

That already is quite a list of upcoming X-Men characters to potentially be added to Marvel Rivals, but it doesn’t quite stop there. According to other gamers at Forbes and Dexerto, we actually have quite the list of leaked characters that allegedly are coming to the game sometime in the future. We don’t know quite when, but we do know that with the Marvel IP, the opportunities are quite literally endless! Here is a quick list of other character leaks from across the internet:

Over time, he acquires additional abilities, including teleportation and channeling magic through firearms. His powers have been linked to entities like Dormammu and the Norn Stones.

Locus

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Unspecified

  • Comic Book Lore: Locus has the ability to teleport herself, other people, or other objects she is in physical contact with, to anywhere that she, or they, have been before. This makes her different from other teleporters like Nightcrawler who can teleport himself to anywhere in his range. She also has to select parts of people or objects and teleport them away, leaving the rest behind, often with deadly results. Other than teleporting things and people, she also has the ability to levitate and fire ranged energy blasts!

Jia Jing (Sprite)

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Strategist

Colossus

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Vanguard

Cyclops

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Unspecified (likely Duelist)

  • Comic Book Lore: Scott Summers, or Cyclops, emits powerful optic blasts from his eyes, which he controls using specialized ruby-quartz visors. These concussive blasts can be used for precision attacks or wide-area damage, making him a strategic leader and combatant.

Emma Frost

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Unspecified

  • Comic Book Lore: Emma Frost is a powerful telepath capable of reading minds, projecting thoughts, and inducing mental illusions. She can also transform her body into an organic diamond form, granting her enhanced strength and durability, though she loses access to her telepathic abilities in this state.

Phoenix (Jean Grey)

  • Potential Role in Marvel Rivals: Unspecified

  • Comic Book Lore: Jean Grey, as the Phoenix, possesses immense telepathic and telekinetic powers. Bonded with the Phoenix Force, she can manipulate matter at a molecular level, project powerful energy blasts, and even resurrect herself, making her one of the most formidable mutants.

Paste-Pot Pete (Trapster)

  • Comic Book Lore: Peter Petruski, a former research chemist turned criminal. He invented a powerful adhesive and devices to deploy it, allowing him to ensnare opponents and create traps. He later adopts the alias "Trapster."

Angela
