Highlights from the September 2023 Nintendo Direct
Nintendo has had a great year with the massive success of a sequel to Breath of the Wild and some previous teasers and announcements that have their fans rearing to know what is happening next in the world of Nintendo. Lucky, fans have gotten to find out more information about their favorite games as Nintendo carries their momentum forward at a fine pace with the latest Nintendo Direct. Clocking in at just around 40 minutes, the September Nintendo Direct provided us with insight into the games that we can expect to see this season - here are the highlights!
F-Zero is back as F-Zero 99 after 20 years! You and 98 others can enjoy the battle royal with all the original cars and tracks from the original game. This was lukewarm news for those who were hoping for a total remake, but it still looks like a fun, casual racing game you can hop into. It doesn’t hurt that it’s available for free for Nintendo Online subscribers.
Continuing with the theme of older remakes, we have Mario vs. Donkey Kong which seems to be a remake of the 2004 Gameboy Advance game. You’ll traverse the world to rescue Mini-Mario toys while solving puzzles. Players will get to check this one out February 16th of next year.
Princess Peach: Showtime! was announced earlier this year with limited details, the game will feature Princess Peach as the start of the show. Players will be able to fill multiple exciting roles as Peach including chef and kung fu master! Damsel in distress? No way! She’s solving this whodunnit in a museum mystery with sword fighting and style on March 22nd 2024!
Splatoon 3’s single-player extension called Side Order, comes out in Spring 2024 and is designed to be replayed! Players will get to see what happened to Inkopolis Square, the city featured in Splatoon 2. This is the second part of the release, with the first part having been released this February. Players will get both parts of their purchase for $24.99.
Unicorn Overlord is coming out in 2024 and looks a little grittier than the name suggests. The gamer developer states that it “combines the timeless tactical RPG genre with overworld exploration and an innovative battle system for a unique epic fantasy experience in the iconic Vanillaware style.” You’ll be able to assemble units and cultivate an army to direct them into battle on March 8th, 2024.
What’s that you want? More remakes? Coming right up! Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is getting a remake after becoming one of the most beloved RPGs on GameCube in 2004. Fans are already receiving the news incredibly well as the paper and cardboard-like graphics have certainly held up over time, making this a deserving and visually enticing remake.
The original Lara Croft Tomb Raider trilogy of games are getting a remake, and they’re currently on sale! Gone are the awkward blocky bits and here to stay is the epic trilogy that captivated gamers. These classics will be ready to play on current systems. You can even change to the original polygon mode anytime if you’re getting wistful about the nostalgia of the originals.
