X17 R1 Hot!

Does the X17-R1 GPU or CPU have overheat protection or notifications? I am playing MS Flight Simulator 2020GOTY and it runs so hot with fans screaming that I would not consider it a laptop. Literally if it's in your lap it's uncomfortable due to heat dissipation.

Hi!

Most gaming laptops would be too hot to sit directly on your lap these days.  Most modern CPUs will start to throttle or even hard-lock if the exceed a specific thermal threshold, and the GPU would normally start to encounter memory errors and crash before it got too hot.  If the only issue you have is the laptop is hot, you are probably fine.  You should check out the reported temps in Alienware Command Center.  It is not unusual for MS Fligh Sim to push your system to its limits, causing your CPU to hover neer 100C and probably around there too for the GPU.

Thanks for the reply. Checking ACC shows 75c so I guess I'm ok. Cheers

Consider undervolting your CPU and GPU with MSI Afterburner to bring down temps without losing much performance. Watch some YT vids if you don't know how it's done.
