Khabib matchup

  • 9

seeing as khabib has decided to retire from mma who would you set him up with if he were to come back for one last fight or what dream fight would you make ?  i think gsp and him will be an amazing matchup and probably one of the best grapple fights ever

It does seem to be quite an age difference. GSP himself mentioned that his age (39 years old) might compromise his cardio and style against Khabib (32 years old). Given that Khabib managed to tire the hell out of one of the best 155'ers in their prime years in the first 1-3 rounds (Gaethje was depleted as hell just in the 1st round), i'd reckon the match might devaforize GSP by quite a margin.

I feel like a complete Lightweight legacy would've been fulfilled if Ferguson was the 30-0 finale of his career and the perfect end to it. The matchup that got cancelled 5 times throughout the years and when they finally managed to make it, a pandemic occured and got cancelled again. Even then i wouldn't give too many chances to Ferguson, but it would still be a great stylistic matchup.

Either way i don't see Khabib returning, unlike most fighers in the UFC, he doesn't seem the type to "retire" then to come back again. He promised his mom that this is the last fight. One can hope but slim chances for that.

great point , GSP would most likely be too old for khabib's pace and tony is definetly the only person that can give khabib trouble ,people actually thought gaethje was gonna be a challenge when clearly khabib eats punches for all meals of the day, should've been evident since the barboza fight when khabib just walked through a spinning heel kick straight to the head but the ufc needed a selling point i guess. tony is the only one built for scrambles on the ground and can manage something against khabib because it's obvious pure wrestling won't stop his ground and pound

One thing i found that rubbed me the wrong way, is that Khabib giving his retirement speech saturday, citing his father's passing as the main cause, promising his mother he will not enter the octagon again, all having an emotional statement of how all of us should keep our parents close and spend our time with them, while the UFC rolled a god damn ad for their trash UFC game right in the middle of that speech.

It feels that of all moments they should promote their stuff, doing so during a respected fighter's retirement speech is the last place you should do it.

About GSP, he's too old now for Khabib, I would prefer to see him fight Tony Ferguson before retiring.

I am also sad that GSP never fought McGregor.

Khabib's personality is unlike other fighters.

He retired, that's it. The end.
