Authorize Alienware Arena to access your Twitter account?

  • 18

Ok - so to get the 14 day Xbox Game Pass, I have to follow @AgeOfEmpires on Twitter.

No problem, I go to do that but then it says I have to authorize alienware to access my Twitter account.  AND they will have these permissions:

  • Follow and unfollow accounts for you.
  • Update your profile and account settings.
  • Post and delete Tweets for you, and engage with Tweets posted by others (Like, un-Like, or reply to a Tweet, Retweet, etc.) for you.
  • Mute, block, and report accounts for you.

WTH???  No thanks, keep your game pass.

I feel sorry for those who just click through without reading.

I'll talk with dev.  I think the default OAuth connections are activated, but they obviously dont need to be.  We dont post or delete or mute anyone on your accounts.  I dont even know how we would.  We have no tools setup to manipulate the account.  We just use the connections to let you log in and verify you follow specific accounts for promotions.

But yea, that kind of access can be a bit off-putting, so ill get that cleaned up.

You can always revoke Alienware's access to your twitter account afterwards. Just go to Settings / Security and account access / Apps and session / Connected Apps / select Alienware and then click on the red revoke access.

I got off twitter when it started to become totally toxic. No thanks.

You just need to avoid the annoying content. I personally stay clear of anything political... it just brings the worst in people. I use Twitter waaaay less than I used to a few years ago but focusing on music news, cats, upcoming albums, my favorite authors, cats, video games, cats.... well, it's not so bad. ;)

Thanks for the clarification.

If you check directly on your twitter security apps and sessions you will see that it uses just read and write permissions, it should use only read but at least it's better than muting/blocking/buying stuff on amazon for us.

That is a bit crazy to ask for all those permissions, most of which are not needed if they just want to verify you followed a particular account.
