League of Legends revenue tumbles 21% in a year
League of Legends is one of the biggest games in the world, but it’s not quite matching its highest levels of success. In fact, the game is on track to hit a four-year low. August’s revenue has dropped 21% compared to the same time period in 2017, indicating a not-so-stellar year for Riot’s massive MOBA.
Don’t go calling League a “dead game” just yet, though. It’s still the number three title on PC worldwide, sandwiched right World of Warcraft and Monster Hunter: World for the month of August. And those games are both enjoying historic levels of success for the month.
World of Warcraft subscriber numbers have hit a four-year high with the launch of Battle for Azeroth, according to the SuperData report. WoW made $161 million following the expansion’s launch, and that’s not even counting the months of pre-sales leading up to launch. We don’t have specific numbers, but subscriber counts for the Western version of WoW are at their highest since 2014.
