Todd Howard ws interviewd and went detail about the PVP aspect of Fallout 76 explaining more on how the system will work and what will happen if you want to avoid PVP.

Combat – Fallout 76 PVP Details

Todd goes in to explain that when you shoot another player you will only do small amounts of damage instead of lots, as its more of an invitation system. So if you shoot a player and they shoot back that’s when you will do the full amount of damage. Todd also explains a revenge system so if another player kills you, the game will invite you to take revenge on the player, doing so will do reward you with double the rewards.

He also goes on to explain the issue about trying to avoid PVP, he explains there are ways to avoid it but if they do manage to kill you, then they will be branded as a murder. If you become a murder you will get no rewards, no EXP, no Caps. you would do it for the social aspect. If you become a murder, you will be marked on the map for other players to kill you, there will be a bounty placed on your head which you will pay for out of your caps.

Respawning – Fallout 76 PVP Details

If you do die, then players will lose their junk which is important in the game, Junk is needed to build things in your camp or create better armor/weapons. However, upon death you will not lose any of these weapons or armor, it will just be a matter of losing your junk. Todd also goes over respawning after death, when you die you can respawn anywhere you have discovered, However, there is a catch, so the nearest location to you will be free as well as fast traveling to Fallout 76 Vault, if you wanted to respawn somewhere else then  you would be charged caps depending on how far the location is away from where you died.

Nukes – Fallout 76 PVP Details

Nuke is a big factor in this game especially with the PVP aspect, in the Q&A the developers go over how the system would work. It was explained that when you build your camp you can actually Blueprint it so in the event that it actually gets destroyed by a nuke, you will be able to build your camp again much easier. Not only this but if you want to move your camp you can pack it all up and move it around the map thanks to the Blueprint system.
