Disney and LucasFilm allegedly are looking for a new developer for Star Wars games

  • 25

In 2013, Electronic Arts and Disney signed an exclusive perennial contract with which EA gained rights to the Star Wars games, and the US publishing house has so far released two Battlefront titles - Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II - Respawn Entertainment is still working on an action adventure in the distant galaxy, while the Visceral Games project was rejected together with the developer.

Unfortunately, Electronic Arts has in both cases disappointed the audience - the original in 2015 - they have been concerned about the lack of singleplayer campaigns, and the 2017 sequel was sentenced to failure due to monetization - which led to the petition opening that would encourage Disney to silence EA from the deal. The American film production company seems to have heard the voice of the people in the end, at least if its to believe in rumors circulating the Internet.

Namely, the portal Cinelinx, which shares this information, claims that in a conversation with multiple sources near to this conundrum revealed that Disney has held a meeting with the executives of Electronic Arts in order to find out what is rotten with their Star Wars games, and later allegedly talked to Ubisoft and Activision in order to find out if they may be interested in an exclusive license.

Since neither Disney nor EA have sounded about confirmation or denial of these claims, it is currently only to be categorized as mere Internet rumors. However, we can always discuss "what if" ...

I'm glad EA exists. Because if these assholes weren't so predatory with their loot boxes, then microtransactions wouldn't have been viewed in such a negative light like EA managed to do.

Yes, microtransactions are arguably the most profitable way to get money in the industry, but if publishers like EA goes as far to ruin a franchise just so they can promote their anti-consumer practices, then it sets an example of other gaming companies not to rely on microtransactions, because they risk on ruining their integrity as a company just so they can go above and beyond for more profit.

Hope they aren't rumors and i hope that EA gets a major net loss from this and from their investors, just so they can go back and make good games again and not relying on their shitty sports games and microtransactions to carry them.

I wouldnt give SW to Ubisoft ever in my life.

I think that it's better than EA can not, there will not be such graphics and scale it si Activision to make a clone of COD in the world of Star Wars.

Interstellar

I guess it would be hard to mess things up more than EA has.

Could it be that EA really save the world this way, sacrificing theirselves just to show the microtransactions cancer in the most grotesque style? :D

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2 is a really bad game.

Here I am, ready to play. Gaming enthusiast without free time to actually play video games but eager to learn anything

I hope that the company that gets the contract don't follow the same path in the long run. It's a pity that CD Projekt Red it's not in the possibles list.

I am always surprised Disney doesn't in-house these things with as big as they are.
