Streamline development on hold, Proletariat explores new multiplayer and live streaming ideas

Streamline, the frantically fun multiplayer action game with deep Twitch integration, is on hold regarding development.

The game went Early Access in 2016 on Steam and introduced a new perspective in the gaming industry: a game specifically built for streaming, additionally with audience interaction. Interesting, isn’t it? This reminds me pretty much of the Gladiator movie with Russell Crowe.

I played the game since it almost hit Steam and I found it unpredictably fun. Either you’re a player or a viewer, everyone has a role when it comes to this game.

Unfortunately, the concept and its potential wasn’t fully understood by the community. In this context comes Seth Sivak, the CEO of Proletariat Games, as Daily Dot reported Sivak “needs to convince the most popular Twitch broadcasters—the burgeoning rock stars of video games—that Streamline is worth playing”. The game should have stayed in Early Access from 6 to 9 months, following a release in Spring or Summer of 2017, however that didn’t actually happen.

I’ve reached out this week on discord to Gordon, Proletariat’s Community Director, to ask about what’s happening with the game and got an unexpected response, however an interesting one:

"Streamline development is on hold for the time being while we explore some new multiplayer and live streaming ideas".

It is clear that Proletariat understood that there’s an issue with this concept and decided to hit the pause button. The actual progress towards Twitch was done with the Proletariat’s new project, the Twitch extension called StreamLegends, which wasn’t mentioned during the discussion. There is a possibility we’ll see something new soon from Proletariat, however nothing is sure.

One thing's sure. Streamline development will remain on hold until Proletariat will gather enough information in order to make the concept work.

Below are some screenshots of the game:

Heres some ideas.   For $4.99 Twitch viewers can change the floor into lava/spikes while the streamer plays.  They could also charge $0.99 to spray emotes on walls to decorate the level.

Payday already implemented that, lmao. Anyway, they didn't make their way to Twitch, at least for now.
