Slay the Spire developer considering more characters and events

Card game roguelike Slay the Spire is hot on Steam and Twitch right now, and for good reason. It's a brilliant genre mash-up despite some late-game issues, and even in its current, truncated, Early Access state, it's a pretty absorbing experience. So players are understandably keen to know what content is coming up, which we found a little more about in a recent interview with developer Mega Crit Games over at RockPaperShotgun

There are currently two character decks in Slay the Spire—The Ironclad and The Silent—with a third on the way. According to Mega Crit's Anthony Giovannetti, the game "will almost certainly have more than three characters" given a little time. "We just want three characters initially, during Early Access," he explained. Adding new characters makes more sense than adding new cards and diluting strategies, he explained.

Giovannetti also said Mega Crit is looking to add more events, which introduce unique mechanics and cards that can totally change the way you play. In particular, they're targeting more "transformative" events like the game's vampires, which come with special healing cards.

Slay the Spire is expected to officially release in mid-2018.

This game is great. Purchased it for full price and its worth the money. I absolutely do not like card games, but somehow i just really dig this combination of a card game with roguelike elements.

I have 30 hours in it and its quite difficult if you don't know the meta. Yes you can test the game and the cards and all, but overall it has quite a difficult curve after the first area , and whatever build you have that works well on many fights, will almost always be countered by a boss/ elite enemy since many are designed to specifically counter a variety of builds.

If you go meta builds for both characters, then the game becomes considerably less difficult. You start with 5 basic defense and 5 basic attack cards, most situations is best to pay and remove as many of those basic cards so you can always draw the better cards you won as you advance, giving you a better chance for having a bigger variety of cards to chose in fights, without ever drawing the basic ones.

The 3rd character is locked, and it will probably be unlocked during or after Early Access. Currently it has no workshop but i purchased this game hoping that will soon be the meat of it, because mods are the main reasons why myself and many people rack hundreds of hours into games. They said that they will definitely consider implementing a workshop once they are done with Early Access.

It also works well on linux, so i appreciate the devs for being considerate enough to build the game on multiple platforms.

I don't really like these type of games but after watching some streams of Slay the Spire and Dead Cells, I kinda want to try them.  But I'm going to wait for the devs to completely finish the game before I consider getting them.

The game looks really promising. It didn't catch my attention until i've seen some streams of it.

I didn't yet play the game, but I like it already
