Transformers games pulled off from Steam

Yesterday Activision delisted five games from Steam without any warning. The disappeared games are the following ones:

  • TRANSFORMERS: Devastation
  • TRANSFORMERS: Fall of Cybertron
  • TRANSFORMERS: Rise of the Dark Spark
  • TRANSFORMERS: War for Cybertron
  • The Legend of Korra
  • and all DLC associated with these games

Presumably it happened because of expiring licenses problems. The games only disappeared from the Steam Store and it has no effect on player's libraries. It means if you already own some of the titles, you can still play with them anytime you want.

Those of you who don't have the games but would like to buy some of them. Don't worry you can still purchase the affected titles in other digital stores such as Humble Bundle.

Yup. It's Activision. Instead of paying for the licensing fees they have games with microtransactions. That's where the money is at these days sadly. This is a problem for any digital game getting pulled. And once 3rd party stores run out of keys that you can redeem on Steam your only option is literally pirating the game which I not approve.

I still couldn't forgive Bethesda for pulling Wolfenstein 2009 from Steam. Have a physical copy of the game so I'm good, but others simply cannot enjoy the game just because bad business decisions are made.

Pretty sure there is a way to strike a new licensing deal in order to continue selling these game. They didn't even bother putting the games on sale so that people would know about the games being pulled. They either got a letter from the rights holders because the license already expired or I don't know. Or something similar.

Were those games even good?  Usually when they license like this, its a crappy game hoping the name alone will bring in $$$.

Existential

It just a prelude of what is to come.  Sometimes the companies cannot afford to license the music for whatever reason and they pull games because they care so much for gamers /s, and want us to move onto other games.   They can want that all they can want but I don't forget such actions.

It is a shame that publishers seem to only be interested in initial sales so they don't bother to sign long term licensing deals.  Strange they wouldn't announce it ahead of time.  I'd bet the announcement of that  Sword Coast Legends game being pulled gave it a nice farewell sales boost.

In response to your question nyulzsiraf555: I'm not an expert, but I thought your post was perfectly fine.
