StarCraft 2 became free to play, Blizzard had fun with Star Wars Battlefront 2
StarCraft 2 from yesterday is the game with free-to-play model, which means it can be played free of charge also in singleplayer and multiplayer components. However, this applies only to Wings of Liberty and only partially to the Heart of the Swarm expansion that you get for free if you already have Wings of Liberty. In any case, StarCraft 2 offers a great deal of content that you do not need to grind to unlock. Blizzard specifically pointed out this with a series of tweets:
"The number of hours you need to earn the full Wings of Liberty campaign: 0. The number of hours of play required to play any commander in StarCraft 2: 0. The number of pay-to-win mechanics in StarCraft 2: 0.
Of course, this is Blizzard's provocation on the case of Electronic Arts and their Star Wars Battlefront II in which most of the interesting characters are locked and for them is needed to allocate a fair amount of hours ... or extra cash to unlock them faster. Blizzard's poking is pretty much the same as the rest of the criticisms that Electronic Arts currently receives.
