Steam Big Picture Vs. New Consoles

  • 1

What do you think is going to happen? With all of the new anti piracy controlls being added to the console market; do you think that people will be more open to making the switch to pc?

Do they just not know about steam sales?

I really like the big picture mode! Really cool when you have multiple monitors and one is an hdtv. You can connect controllers to your pc, and play games from the hdtv display. Really fun for those local coop pc games.

Big Picture on a desktop operating system is great.  Easily alt + tabbing to any other running app you wish is really cool in windows 10.   Not having the choice of running the client in Large Mode or Big Picture (or Small Mode) in SteamOS is a big put off for me.   Currently there is not one decent racing car game in steam store that supports steamos though Grid Autosport and Project Cars are supposed to be coming very soon ...  ... I'll believe it when i see it.  For comparison i find it truly remarkable i could be playing Grid, Dirt 3 and other well known driving games on a $200 android device (nvidia shield console) which is evidence enough for me android is getting very close to encroaching pc gaming space.    This ties in (in my mind) the only advantage and purpose of steamos which is a prerequisite to Valve providing a steam for arm client and to allow uber easy recompilation (yes recompile and not port) of pc titles to arm all in an effort to provide pc gaming at a very reasonable price.

Big Picture has been "pushed" as something to be used in the living room.  In reality it is really the interface of choice for SteamVR which needs a dedicated gaming room to fully appreciate the room scale VR.  VR hmd's are NOT Big Picture screens!

Is there any Alienware arm gaming devices in the pipeline?
