AMD is crushing with its second generation of Threadripper processors

  • 1501

In June of this year, AMD announced the second generation of Threadripper processors, which took the lead in the market - at least in terms of number of cores. Namely, the most powerful model of Threadripper's second generation will have 32 cores and 64 threads, what is currently more than anything else on the market.

Now that model, in fully called AMD Ryzen Threadripper 2990WX is available for purchase. Specifically, pre-orders have started, and in sale should be available from the middle of this month.

The price: 1800 American greenies, so who likes feel free. For those slightly modest customers of the second generation Threadripper will get a weaker model at the end of the month (Threadripper 2950x with 16 cores), or a few more models later this fall.

The new Threadripper is based on Zen+ architecture and will work with existing X399 motherboards. It is primarily intended for professional use, but in the context of video games it will not justify its price as gaming today is not using more than eight cores.

WTF, so expensive!!

Well these CPUs aren't for your average Joe or gamer. These are more for content creators, 3D modelers or YouTubers, if they have a second PC for rendering the video. Though with the latter you eventually hit a point of diminishing returns depending on the software you use to render.
