We Happy Few banned in Australia over happy pills

We Happy Few is a psychedelic horror from Canadian indie developer Compulsion Games, which residents of the procedurally-generated English town Wellington Wells requires to swallow happy pills. Simply put, this game is based on the idea that spurious joy means life in imaginary utopia, and turning to truth and freedom from swallowing fake pills leads straight to death.

We Happy Little is behind the Early Access canvas for almost two years, but the Canadians have promised that we'll see its full version this summer. However, this does not apply to all players. Specifically, the Australian Classification Committee, otherwise known by the strict rules on video games, has refused to give a green light to the horror with elements of survival, meaning that it can not be legally sold in their country.

The main reason for denying classification or refusing to launch We Happy Few is drug use and the use of the same what plays a key role in the mentioned title in fully is described in the following way:

"Computer games that 'depict, express or otherwise deal with matters of sex, drug misuse or addiction, crime, cruelty, violence or revolting or abhorrent phenomena in such a way that they offend against the standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable adults to the extent that they should not be classified.'"
