Rage 2 follows model of the games as a service, but without loot boxes

In a recent interview with the German gaming magazine GameStar, id Software studio director Tim Willits explained that American software company id Software and independent Swedish developer Avalanche Studios, in the upcoming video game Rage 2 have approached as a model of the game as a service.

Specifically, Willits and the company that he works for think that with this way to the game will bring a bunch of fun things that will entertain the players in a long run, or buyers of that pink post-apocalyptic mutant shooter. But despite that, their approach will be somewhat different from the ones we are used to seeing in most other games when it comes to the live service component. Simply put, Rage 2 will not contain loot boxes:

"We will not have any Lootboxes, I can say that for sure. We have this new approach: You buy the game and then you play it. (Laughs)"

Even though Willits did not reveal too much details about the upcoming title, he said the US company was responsible for the "id-like" feeling of shooter, and a Swedish studio expert in creating an open world will take over development of other parts of the game.

It will be interesting to see if games as a service works for them. Still I am happy to see that they have publicly announced that they will not have lootboxes. Hopefully they do not waver on that message.
