Thermal Controller Stops working when using Nvidia DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution)

Hi there,

I have an Alienware Aurora R6 with a GTX 1080 card.  When I use Nvidia's DSR (Dynamic Super Resolution), Thermal Controller pops up with an error.  It says 'Thermal Controller Has Stopped Working'.  I've updated my BIOS and uninstalled Command Center, totally reinstalling two times now.  I get the same error every time I play a game using 4K DSR.

Mind you, DSR works, but I just can't use thermal controls while I'm playing with a game at a simulated higher resolution.

Can anyone reproduce this error and does any one have any ideas?

Thank you

I had this same issue, but only if my computer came out of sleep or hibernation.  I would just restart the Alienware Command Center app, and thermal controls worked again.

Interesting.  For me, it's all the time...  I've also tried restarting Command Center mid-game to see if thermal control would work, but it just repeatedly quits until I change the resolution back to 1080p.

To make a further distinction here, I am setting DSR to a factor of 4 in the Nvidia settings, but I'm keeping the display at 1080p most of the time.  I only use the 4K downsampling when the program starts, so I think the error is occurring when it switches over to 4K downsampling (temporarily for the game, which is using 4K resolution).

Notably, if I actually change the ENTIRE desktop resolution over to 4K and then launch a game, it'll work (without it crashing the thermal controller).  So it truly must be the switch from 1080p to 4K that is triggering some kind of error with the thermal controller.

Actually, talking myself through this has solved some of the riddle.  I changed my desktop scaling to 100% and it solves the problem.  I can confirm:  If you have a custom DPI scaling and it switches to 4K DSR from that overscaled display setting, it'll crash thermal controller.
