Project Borealis is now the only hope in Half-Life 3
On the above image is not yet another set of materials from never finished Half-Life 2: Episode 3 or Half-Life 3. This modified headcrab is the result of the pre-production phase for Project Borealis - a game that group of HL fans works to complete the story which briefly told Half-Life 3 screenwriter, Marc Laidlaw, like that how he had imagined it while he was still working in Valve and on the game itself.
The team of fans analyzed Laidlaw's synopsis into key parts then decided to expand it with their own ideas. For now they completed half of the scenario then by the completion will start reading and correcting. Sam Laidlaw in no way participated in the development of the story, and the team does not plan to go any further than what Laidlaw imagined. We recall, the ending that he had in mind was not intended as a conclusion of the series but would have another cliffhanger, just like the previous episodes.
As far as gameplay is concerned, the goal is to be as lively as playing Half-Life games, which is not an easy task, but the team has invested a bunch of hours in studying the HL game development documentation and studying HL2 speedrunnes to understand on which principle is designed gameplay of cult series. As for the presentation, they also intend to stay true to the original material and have prepared some really nice compositions that you can listen below.
