Developer of Torchlight joined the world of the dead

It looks like Motiga, a development team behind the free Gigantic, is not the only victim of the immense name Perfect World. Namely, the company headquartered in China in 2010 gained most of its shares in Runic Games, the development team behind the Torchlight series and this year's action adventure Hob, to seven years later to the same digged the grave spot.

Representative of Perfect World explained that "closing down a Seattle-based development team is part of their company's strategy that focuses on online games as services." Since no title from Runic was built according to the model of the game as a service such news in some hand could also be expected.

On the other hand, the boss of Runic Games on the official site thanked everyone who supported the studio, praised his excellent employees and stated that the whole team worked as one great family. Finally he pointed out that the community and multiplayer would not quit together with Runic and that this is not the last greetings.

Man, it's so sad to see Runic bite the dust, I really enjoyed Torchlight 1 and 2. I felt the writing was on the wall as soon as they were bought by Perfect World to be honest.

Interstellar

Sad to see them go just so another publisher can foist online multiplayer drek filled with microtransactions (which aren't so bloody micro in price) and loot boxes. :(

"Game as a service" is such a scam!

Such a shame, I really enjoyed both Torchlight games and to have this studio shut down for "games as a service" is a bit of a punch to the gut. Hopefully the team can reform as a new studio.
