I was wondering which one I should get? I will mainly be gaming and going to school.. What do you think is the best for my uses? I know the m18x is significantly heavier, but i will get a backpack ( not too concerned about weight, will the m18x be too big for class? whats the battery life like doing class stuff? do i need to be by an outlet in class?) I have seen some recent feed on the new haswell releasing in june-ish? Should i wait for the new models?

both are amazing, the m18x is more powerful but the m17x is more portable so it really depends on what your looking for. from what it sounds like the m17x should be perfect. i love mine

Thanks for your comment! I was also wondering if the 4 years warranty and accidental damage protection a good idea? Should i get windows 8?

Planetary

Personally, get the M17x since it is smaller and lighter than the M18x. If you want Dual GPUs, go for the M18x. If not, go for the M17x. And yes, you will need to be near an outlet unless you know how to preserve its battery life well. And for the backpack, go for the M17x backpack. Enough to hold either laptop and its the biggest of the two. The link has the base of the M17x done for you. Upgrade as you will.

Thanks, I was wondering what specs i would need if i was mostly playing wow and bf 3? should i go for that dual graphic card set up? or use the m17x 680m?

Here's what I'd recommend for the M17x R4 (using the link I provided): 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0) Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit or Windows® 8 Pro 64bit 6GB (1 X 2GB, 1 X 4GB) DDR3 at 1600MHz 500GB 7,200 RPM Storage + 128GB mSATA Boot Drive 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M 17.3-inch WideFHD 1920 x 1080 60Hz WLED Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0 INTERNAL Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW) This should suit your gaming needs. All you would need to do is upgrade the RAM to 8 GB using this link or this link if you want both sticks to be the same brand. Also, search in the same website if you want an SSD instead of a HDD as Dell charges exorbitant prices for an upgrade. Without the SSD change, you're looking at, with taxes, a good $2300 at most ($2400 for the Win8 version since Pro is much better). Now, if you want the M18xR2, then expect to pay more: 3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM (6MB Cache, up to 3.4GHz w/ Turbo Boost 2.0) Windows® 7 Home Premium, 64bit or Windows® 8 Pro 64bit 6GB (1 X 2GB, 1 X 4GB) DDR3 at 1600MHz 500GB 7,200 RPM Storage + 128GB mSATA Boot Drive 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M or Dual 2GB GDDR5 AMD Radeon™ HD 7970M - CrossFireX™ Enabled (Can only get with the Win8 one with this set up) Intel® Centrino® Wireless-N 2230 With Bluetooth 4.0 INTERNAL OPTICAL DRIVE Slot-Loading Dual Layer DVD Burner (DVD+-RW, CD-RW) Using the same RAM link, you're looking at $3000 with the dual GPU set up, and $2650 for the single GPU set up. Of course, you don't need a 128GB mSATA, but the dollar difference is still there. If you go the M17x route, you save at least $200 to $350 compared to the single GPU M18x and a huge $600 to $700 compared to the dual GPU for lesser performance. Read this carefully as this is a lot. Also, the 7970m and the 680m are essentially the same except brand and Optimus is much better than Enduro.

Planetary
agreed with everything said above except the ram id say get more if you donno how to upgrade yourself but 8-12 should be more then enough
