My only problem now is, I have a monitor connected via the amp (DVi-D) and I can only extend displays and not mirror my laptop, is there any reason for this?

A big Thumbs up for Alienware for this.. Good JOb

I am curious to hear from the engineers on this one ... would the graphics amp allow proper CUDA processing ? As in allow to run programs with Nvidia CUDA code to take advantage of the external graphics card for computing ?

I unplugged the front fan in my amp - had no effect on temps. (I have the PNY 980 GTX, which exhausts out the back of the card, so pulls air through the case on its own.)

The workaround should be made for you to not lose the 860m. At least, that is what I understand from it. The external monitor may be a insurance kind of deal, but you'll have to test to find out.
